Comfortable Riding

Wald Steel Handlebar 5 25 Black

Wald Steel Handlebar 5 25 Black

I needed something for our office, to blow out equipment and PC's from dust and junk. Basically to clean incoming electronics off. In our previous building, we had a nice upper level where we had a full sized compressor for air. But in our new offices, it's a single floor and no place to keep it. So we've been doing without, or using a small vac here and there.

Finally decided that anything was better than nothing, so thought I'd give this a shot. I had it overnighted so I could do some testing this weekend. Fired it up in my house after assembling the hose and couplings. I had seen some of the reviews mentioning that it didn't keep it's pressure, so was curious about that. It comes with plumber's tape, for the threads, so I used it and got it assembled quickly enough. Plugged it in and powered it on.

LOUD.

I knew it would be from the other reviews, but I didn't realize just HOW loud. But I let it run and it quickly got up to 60 or 70 PSI, enough for me to test things with, and it seemed like it would do a decent job for my needs. I got it up to 70 again and closed the nozzle's valve, unplugged it, and brought it with me to the office. I let it sit there for about four hours, and it didn't lose any pressure at all - needle was still in the same spot. Plugged it in, found the worst server in storage I could, got the cover off and the hot swap drives out, and started to clean it up. Ended up having to take the screen off of a large window in my office and hang the server out the window to keep all the junk from floating around my office. With it running, I got about four or five minutes of decent cleaning power before I ended up with it running down too much to have good air pressure for cleaning, so I let it sit for another few minutes running, and finished up.

I haven't fired it up to 110 PSI yet (the supposed capacity according to the box) to see how long it will work at that point, but since I don't expect it to be as long lasting as the full sized one, it's more than enough for what we need.

Only complaint is that the nozzle for inflating car tires isn't a quick change nozzle, so I can't just pop it on after using the other ones. It's a screw on one, so you've got to re-tape again. But since I have a smaller electric compressor that is specifically for auto tires, it won't impact my use with this one.

All in all, for under eighty dollars, a great unit. Hose doesn't seem nearly as horrible to me as the other reviewers are talking - doesn't seem brittle to me at all, and is flexible enough for my needs, but I can certainly see where having a standard rubber hose would be a LOT easier.

  1. Put it on my wife's bike and it works fine. Makes bike riding more comfortable. I have no problems with this product.

  2. I am 60 years old and I still ride the 10 speed I had in college, but could no longer bend over. Finally, I broke down and purchased a higher handlebar. Now I ride like an old man, but in comfort. One word of warning, not related to this product, is that you may have to change your brake levers, as different levers are made for different handle bars.

  3. I was looking for a handlebar for my mountain style bike that would allow me to sit up straight, easing my back issues. This bar was inexpensive and fills the need. It seems quite sturdy, although I mainly ride on bike paths rather than off road.

  4. I installed this handlebar on a Specialized mountain bike for a wider grip and a more comfortable riding position. The rise and angles were just what I was looking for and my ride is now much mroe comfortable. They are steel and well-built. If you're looking to save weight you might look elsewhere, but if you want quality, durability, and comfort, this bar will do the trick.

  5. I recently purchased the .Pacific Dualie Tandem Bike (26-Inch Wheels). Prior to purchasing any items on the internet, I tend to read all the reviews of the product (good and bad). While reading the reviews for the Bike, there was a great review that indicated that the handlebar for the second rider, was too low. That reviewer suggested the Wald Steel Handlebar #803 5.25" 27" 1" Black and indicated the handlebar was a perfect height. After reading that review, I purchased the bike and the handlebar at the same time. I was able to use the grips from the original handlebar and put them on this handlebar. This item was also shipped promptly and was packaged properly.

  6. I put these handlebars on my Specialized hybrid bike, and I love them! I sit more upright now (have an Easy-Seat), and have no more backache after riding an hour or so. I think the quality is fine - seem to be sturdy enough for the light-duty riding I do (semi-paved trails and streets). I'd recommend these if you're looking to adjust your bike to a more "touring" type bike vs road or mountain bike. On mine, I didn't even have to buy new cables. Installation was easy (measure the same distance in from the ends for the brake handles compared to your old handlebars) - took me about 45 minutes, tops.

  7. This handlebar arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I installed it on a Fuji Absolute 3.0. Had to replace the cables. Made a mistake and got 4 brake cables, which worked fine for the brakes but would not work with the grip shift. Oh well, two more cables. These bars put me in a very comfortable riding position and I can see better with less neck strain. My other components are matte black but these are glossy black. I'm still happy with them. The rise is apparent in the photo, but what you cannot see is the bars angle back a bit after the rise so that your pinky finger is a bit closer to your shoulder than your pointer finger. A very natural position and I am pleased they were made that way.

  8. I purchased this for a mountain bike that had a straight handlebar which required an uncomfortable lean to reach. This handlebar has brought the grips and gear shifts closer and higher, making it more comfortable to ride.

Changing out the handlebar yourself is quick and easy... but you will probably have to re-route your gear and brake cables. Possibly a good idea to replace all at once. For me, I needed to replace the cable sheathing with longer ones to accommodate the change. I wish I had known that prior so I wouldn't have had to make an extra purchase later and delay the bike being road-worthy.

  9. This handlebar has relieved my growing back pain issue during and after riding. Held up well on my Trek MTB and did not require me to replace the cables which I thought I would have to do.
